Infantil & Lower Primary

Finally! Winter's over, spring is here! We've all come a long way since October, but there's still a long way to go... Do you feel like you could use a final push? Maybe some practical ideas to use with your very young learners, now that the academic year is coming to an end? In this session you will find practical suggestions and varied activities to use in class: TPR, songs, stories and simple arts and crafts activities that kids love! Use them with or without your coursebook to revise language and fill in your lesson plan.

So What Does It Mean?
4th April 1pm
16th May 10.30am
Andrea Sweeney
Adults & Secondary

"Teacher, what means toddler?" How would you answer the question? Would you give a definition? Draw a picture? Give the student a dictionary? And would you automatically correct the grammatical mistake in the question? In this session we will tackle these issues and look at how to make the classroom more learner-centred, taking the focus for language explanations off the teacher.

SOS: Seminar On Speaking

11th April 10.30am
18th April 1pm
Jacqueline Cook
Cambridge Exams

Students generally get very nervous about Paper 5 but after this seminar you should be able to help minimize their stress and maximize their performance with some easy-to-prepare activites. We will look at the different types of speaking tasks that comprise most of the Cambridge exams from PET to Proficiency, as well as review the examiner's criteria ... all in an effort to help our students sail through those speaking exams.

Which Words?
11th April 1pm
18th April 10.30am
Richard O'Loughlin
Adults & Secondary

As teachers we're all well aware of the importance of vocabulary learning. The purpose of this seminar is to share some ideas and concepts that I've had the opportunity to look at during the course of my MA studies. We'll be looking at how we can choose useful vocabulary for our classes in a systematic manner and some of the options we have available to expose students to this useful vocabulary.

Do you find yourself endlessly asking students "What did you find out about your partner?" or "What's the answer to number 7, Pablo?" This practical seminar will look at how teachers can use class time more effectively by varying our approach to classroom feedback (including checking homework), or even break a CELTA golden rule and skip it algoether.

Pronunciation Prime Time
25th April 1pm
23rd May 10.30am
Andrea Littlewood

Primary

This practical session looks at how we can integrate pronunciation activities into our younger learner lessons and give pronunciation the importance it deserves. Through class routines, games involving mime and movement, puzzles, rhymes and riddles, we can help our children to reflect on what English sounds like and motivate them to "sound right" themselves.

Multiple Intelligences - Helping Children Learn
16th May 1pm
13th June 10.30am
Andrea Littlewood
Primary & Secondary

We all know that it takes all sorts to make up any YLs class. In this seminar we will be looking at how we can cater for the rich diversity of students we are lucky enough to teach and how multiple intelligence theory can inform our planning, preparation and delivery.

D-I-C-T-A-T-I-O-N
30th May 10.30am
20th June 1pm

Adults & Secondary

Some people think dictation is old-fashioned and boring. However, if used wisely it can raise energy levels, focus on pronunciation and be a great minimal-preparation lead-in. In this session we will revisit dictation and learn some practical techniques which will add to your TEFL toolbox.

Keeping It Real
6th June 10.30am
13th June 1pm
Helena Mazzone & Andrea Sweeney
Adults and Secondary

Do you sometimes feel that your coursebook is too dry and the material isn't relevant for your students? Do you think that it is difficult to use authentic materials with lower levels? This practical session will look at ways of using authentic material in class to challenge and motivate your students at all levels, using tried-and-tested teaching techniques that you can apply to any material.

"Can We Watch A Film?"

6th June 1pm
20th June 10.30am

Silvie Rasikova
Adults and Secondary

How many times have your students asked you this question and you heard yourself say "No, we don't have time to JUST watch a film"? In this seminar we will look at a variety of meaningful and entertaining activities which will make students use and produce a lot of language. So the next time they ask you ...
