In this seminar, we’ll look at different ways of using a guided meditation CD by Brian Weiss (an American psychologist specialised in hypnosis), some of them typical of EFL teaching, others more alternative. We’ll look at a number of lead-in, listening and post-task activities, trying to make the most of an authentic (though rather unusual) piece of material, while promoting a more human touch in class.(You do not need to have had any previous experience of meditation or even believe in the benefits of it, but please come with an open mind!) |

Student feedback consistently shows that students want more listening in class, but if we have used all the coursebook materials, what else can we do to help students to develop this essential skill? In an ideal world we might create our own lessons based around materials from the internet, the radio etc., but for many teachers, time constraints mean that this is not a realistic option. In this seminar, we will look at some materials-light ways of helping students to better understand spoken English. |
